Happy 100th Birthday Bern Prescott

Baptcare Wattle Grove resident Bern Prescott’s 100th birthday celebrations were special for so many reasons.

Yes, there was cake and festive balloons but unlike usual celebrations at Baptcare Wattle Grove, it was a deliberately muted event, perfect for Memory Support Unit (MSU) resident, Bern.

“Instead of celebrating it in our normal Wattle Grove way with lots of staff, residents, and family members, we had a quiet affair with Bern’s family, a few MSU staff, and some lifestyle staff, since Bern feels more at ease with a small group rather than a crowd,” said Nishant Desai, Residential Care and Services Manager at Wattle Grove.

Another special guest was pet therapy dog Miley who stayed by Bern’s side, keeping him relaxed.

Bern’s family was so grateful for the celebration and the ongoing care.

“Dad’s party has given everlasting memories to some family members who may never have the opportunity to share time with him again, especially his own brother whom he miraculously recognised,” said Bern’s daughter Julie Frearson.

Baptcare recently launched our Living Well Together model of care that focuses on what matters to each resident, and what gives them meaning and purpose. The model of care will support staff to work alongside residents and to support them to live their fullest lives.

Congratulations to Wattle Grove for living this resident-catered care. And congratulations 100 times over to Bern and his family.
