Devco’s 2022 Baptcare Charity Golf Day at Huntingdale Golf Course

Banana balls, bogeys and barkies…it’s beginning to sound a lot like golf.  Although perhaps not the type of game our golfers will wish for today at the 2022 Devco Baptcare Charity Golf Day at Huntingdale Golf Course!

This fundraising event has become essential to facilitating the work of our Sanctuary program, with all funds and donations raised supporting people seeking asylum.

Sanctuary provides supported transitional accommodation in Melbourne for people seeking asylum who have experienced homelessness while awaiting the outcome of their application for a Protection visa or Humanitarian claim.

Residents at Baptcare Sanctuary have been forced to flee their homelands under the threat of persecution because of their race, religion, political beliefs, membership of a particular social group or ethnicity. Many are survivors of torture; all are survivors of trauma and emotional distress.

Sanctuary's transitional accommodation and related support services are provided to help empower homeless people seeking asylum to live an independent life in the Australian community.  Support is needs-based and includes:

• Accommodation and food
• English language teaching
• Cultural education (how things work in Australia)
• Education and employment support (including for their children)
• Mental health
• Social and spiritual support
