A short-term stay provided 24/7 care after Patricia’s illness

After experiencing a decline in her health, Patricia Hooper opted for a respite stay at Baptcare The Orchards. “I was living independently in a retirement village and became quite ill. I moved into my daughter’s house but still needed extra help,” says Patricia. “I’ve got that here.” Having around-the-clock care available is very important, says Patricia. “The staff are really on the ball and everybody is so caring. That’s what’s great about The Orchards – it’s 24/7 care, with a smile.” Now 40 days into her respite stay, Patricia says she is considering moving in permanently. “I’m really happy here and my daughter likes that I’m being so well looked after.”

Letting caregivers rest and recharge

Yolanda Marascoe, who is staying at The Orchards for 7 weeks while her family is on holiday, says she was initially nervous about the idea of a respite stay. “It was a big step for me. I still live in my own home but my daughter usually comes and helps me every day with things like shopping and cooking, so staying here made sense while she was away,” says Yolanda. Yolanda says her days at The Orchards have been filled with activity. “The residents are very friendly and I’ve been joining in the group activities and exercises every day. People play the piano and we sing,” says Yolanda. “I’m very happy here and my daughter has peace of mind because she knows she doesn’t have to worry about me while she's gone.”

Care that makes you feel at home

Marilyn Giles chose to have a respite stay at The Orchards to prepare for her upcoming surgery, and plans to return during her recovery. “I have Parkinson’s disease and I’m having an operation next month to reduce my tremors. My recovery will take around 6 weeks, but I know I’ll be well cared for during that time,” says Marilyn. Before her Parkinson’s disease diagnosis, Marilyn was an avid traveller who had visited 84 countries and says her children have inherited her love for travel. “I live with my daughter, but she wanted to take the kids on a holiday to Disneyland, so being here also gives me the extra support I need while they are away.” Marilyn says she’s been very impressed by The Orchards’ staff and facilities. “It’s modern and clean. I love sitting on the balcony in the sun and enjoying the views,” she says. “The staff are approachable and the people are friendly. When my grandson visits, he’s got all the ladies wrapped around his little finger. It’s a great place to stay.”
