Monday 12 May was International Nurses Day, but at Baptcare we celebrate our wonderful nursing staff every day
Great people like Pratikshya Raut, Nurse Unit Manager at our Westhaven Residential Aged Care community – and our latest Face of Baptcare.
Pratikshya, can you tell us what your job involves?
I am responsible for a wide range of clinical and resident care duties. My daily responsibilities include administering medications, providing wound care, and participating in doctor rounds. I collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care for residents. A critical part of my role involves identifying early signs of disease or deterioration in residents’ conditions and taking appropriate action. I also follow up with resident appointments, review and update care plans, and manage pain effectively to promote comfort and recovery.
You must be busy! How long have you been with Baptcare?
I have been working with Baptcare for three years.
Is Baptcare a good place to work?
Working with Baptcare is deeply rewarding because of its commitment to person-centred care and values-driven service. I appreciate being part of an organisation that not only prioritises the well-being of its residents but also supports its staff with compassion and respect. Baptcare fosters a supportive and inclusive work environment that encourages personal and professional development. The organisation operates with integrity and promotes a culture of respect, where every individual is valued.
What makes your job meaningful?
I find great fulfillment in making a real difference in people’s lives each day. Nursing allows me to build meaningful relationships, advocate for those in need, and continuously grow both personally and professionally.
What did International Nurses Day mean to you?
International Nurses Day is a meaningful reminder of the compassion, strength and dedication that define the nursing profession. For me and my colleagues, it’s a time to reflect on the impact we make in people’s lives every day. It’s a moment of pride and unity, where we celebrate the tireless work, resilience and empathy that nurses bring to every shift. It also reminds us of the importance of supporting one another, advocating for our profession, and continuing to grow in knowledge and skill to meet the ever-changing needs of our residents.
Did you always want to become a nurse? Have you worked in other jobs?
Since childhood, my goal has always been to become a nurse. After coming to Australia, and prior to becoming a registered nurse, I worked as a waitress, a pizza chef, and customer service at Hungry Jacks.
What do you like to do when you are not at work?
I love travelling and have a passion for gardening. Two things on my bucket list are traveling to Japan and visiting the United States.
Do you have a favourite quote?
My favourite quote is ‘Go for it, Believe in Yourself.’
Who would you like to sit next to at a dinner party?
Taylor Swift. She is not only a musical powerhouse but also an incredibly thoughtful storyteller.
