Wyndham Lodge Choir
Every Tuesday afternoon, residents gather in the sunny music room at Baptcare’s Wyndham Lodge Residential Aged Care community to sing together.
The choir sings well-loved songs, from ‘Cockles and Mussels’ and ‘Kiss Me Goodnight, Sergeant Major’ to ‘You Are My Sunshine’ and the Carols by Candlelight favourite, ‘The Holy City’.
Research shows that choir singing has many benefits for older people. This includes mental and emotional wellbeing, stress reduction, cognitive function and respiratory health
It also fosters togetherness. There is a lot of laughter in the choir room, and even some spontaneous dancing.
In the words of one favourite choir song, ‘Roll out the barrel, we’ll have a barrel of fun; Roll out the barrel, we’ve got the blues on the run.’
