Student Volunteer Spotlight - Erin
- 04 Apr 2025

Did you know that BaptistCare has student volunteers at some of our Residential Aged Care communities?
Our volunteers are an integral part of our BaptistCare community, not only in residential aged care but across many of our programs and services. Volunteers provide essential connection, positivity and assistance to residents, clients and consumers.
Erin, a dedicated student volunteer at BaptistCare Hedley Sutton Residential Aged Care community, is a 16-year-old Year 11 student at Presbyterian Ladies College in Burwood.
Below we gain a small insight into what Erin enjoys most about volunteering and what her future aspirations are!
What is the best part of being a youth volunteer?
I’m really exposed to a lot of new experiences being a youth volunteer and having contact with people (residents) who have had a lot of experiences in life. I find that you can learn so much from them.
What goals do you have for the future?
My goal is to use whatever profession I end up in (possibly a lawyer) being able to help more people, make change and have a positive impact in the community.
If you could change anything for youth, what would it be and why?
I really think mental health is so important. I suffer from anxiety and am aware that most people don’t want anyone to know about others’ mental health challenges. It would be great to raise social awareness to tell everyone it’s okay to not be okay all the time and to seek help with any issues they may have.

They simply need to feel welcoming and soothing for you and your child. Here are some simple, realistic ways to create calm spaces that support your whole family.
