Frequently asked questions

Is moving to a retirement community the right choice for me?

It’s an important decision that needs to suit your individual circumstances, life stage, family dynamic, and your financial situation and goals. Unlike a standard real estate purchase, your decision needs to factor in what value you place on the social, emotional, support, security, and maintenance advantages of being part of a retirement community.

All retirement living options are not alike. Each community offers different physical, community and support qualities. There are the more tangible aspects of amenities and the less tangible but incredibly important aspects of lifestyle and ‘fit’.

How do I find a retirement community that is the right choice for me?

Location: For most people location is a key factor in their decision.

Is it close to the community, services, shopping I am familiar and comfortable with?

Is it close to my current home?

Is it close to my family members?

Are friends or acquaintances already living there or close by?

Can I get to shops and health services easily or without driving?

Accommodation match: Each community has unique attributes, environment to consider. Is this going to suit your needs in this next phase of your life?

Does the physical accommodation suit your needs and preferences and budget?

Available units and units – layout, courtyard, etc.

Courtyard or garden

Car space. Does the community accommodate any other vehicles you may have?

Shared community spaces – e.g is there a community centre, BBQ, exercise equipment?

Are there community services available locally for you to enjoy? Does the community have a community garden space, a men’s shed and regular, planned outings?

Shared gardens and landscaping

Are there resources for example a bus, that is shared throughout the community?
