Early Childhood Intervention Services

Early Childhood Intervention Services (ECIS) Flexible Support Packages

Our ECIS Flexible Support Packages is an initiative that targets children (birth to school age) who have been diagnosed with a disability or a developmental delay.

ECIS Flexible Support Packages complement the existing range of early childhood intervention services available for families to ensure that children are able to participate and be fully included in all activities of family and community life.

Children and their families may access flexible and individually tailored supports and services on a short-term basis through external agencies, (e.g. child care, therapy, respite, equipment, parent education and support, or home modifications.)

What does an ECIS Flexible Support Package offer?

The program offers support to families who are experiencing one or more of the following areas of need:

  • Children with complex support needs (other than high medical) such as social, behavioural and emotional needs.
  • Safety issues in relation to the child’s behaviour affecting the ability of parents and others to meet the child’s needs.
  • Children who are at a transition point in their lives, or at a critical stage of development.
  • Families who demonstrate significant levels of anxiety/stress and are at risk of family breaking down.
  • Families who have limited support networks and who may not be receiving any support.

Eligibility

This program targets:

Children from birth to school age, who have a disability or developmental delay, including Autism, as well as those with high and/or complex needs (other than high medical needs) including social, behavioural and emotional issues.

Children must live in the Northern or Western regions of Melbourne.

Referral process and enquires

Access to the Early Child Intervention Service is managed through the ECIS Coordinator, Team Leader and Region Assessment Panel, which considers a range of factors, including learning and development, safety and risk, independence and mobility, family circumstances, critical transitions, the person’s disability and funding from other supports.

An ECIS referral form needs to be completed, this can be done by an ECIS intake worker. If you do not have an ECIS worker, please contact your local region:

Eastern Metropolitan Region: 1300 662 655
Northern Metropolitan Region: 03 9304 0775
Southern Metropolitan Region: 1300 720 151
Western Metropolitan Region: 03 9275 7500

If your child has an allocated ECIS key worker, they are able to complete this application.
