Lalor celebrates opening of aged care development

“We love that Dad will be close to home in a brand new facility and that he will be the first person to occupy the bed and room. We hope he finds happiness and peace here” – Silvana, on why she chose Wattle Grove Community for her father, Mario, a Lalor resident for the past 45 years.

Mario is just one of the eventual 120 residents that now calls the newly developed Baptcare Wattle Grove Community home.

Opened today, the 120-bed residential aged care facility presents a modern aged care option providing excellent care for those who can no longer live at home.

Belinda Wandabwa, Residential Care and Services Manager of the new facility says Wattle Grove Community is focused on putting family first.

“Wattle Grove Community centres on people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and is a place where a sense of belonging is at the centre of everything. A place where family is important and welcome at all times and friendships can be built and shared. It is a place where people can feel truly connected,” said Belinda.

“Ultimately, Baptcare Wattle Grove Community is a home away from home where residents are part of a strong, multicultural community that values every person,” said Belinda.

The development will benefit and support many individuals and communities in need in the City of Whittlesea area and deliver much needed quality aged care services to the locality.

Belinda says the Community reaffirms Baptcare’s commitment to seniors in the area.

“Wattle Grove Community allows residents and the local community to stay connected and active and has been designed with everything residents could need,” said Belinda.

Those who become part of the Wattle Grove Community are able to enjoy several shared areas, large outdoor terraces and courtyard gardens, and bright dining rooms and lounges where many activities are available. Some of these include enjoying multicultural food, cooking groups, armchair travel to resident’s birth towns, and varying religious programs.

Healthy, tasty meals are prepared every day in the kitchen and community services like an onsite hairdresser and a wide range of health services and trained nurses are readily available.

Bedrooms include a private room with an ensuite bathroom, large window with surrounding suburban views, a modern, adjustable bed, a flat screen TV, adjustable heating and a built-in wardrobe with a lockable drawer. Some rooms feature direct access into the courtyard with a private patio area.

More residents will move into the new residential aged care facility over the coming months. For more information visit the wattle grove community page.
