Update: Westhaven Community - Footscray, Victoria

Posted 29 August 2020

Previously, Baptcare confirmed that there was one staff member of Baptcare Westhaven Community who has tested positive for COVID-19.

All residents continue to be well and are not experiencing any symptoms.

All residents and staff were tested on site Friday, 21 August 2020, and Saturday, 22 August 2020. We have received all the test results and they are all negative.

A second round of testing took place on Thursday, 27 August 2020. We have received an overwhelming number of the results and they are all negative. We await the remaining results.

Our primary concern during this time is the wellbeing, health and safety of our residents and staff. These cases were reported to the relevant Health authorities and we are taking advice from them.

Out of an abundance of caution, we continue to isolate all residents at Westhaven in their rooms and maintain segregation in this community. All staff will wear personal protective equipment (PPE) – masks, gloves, goggles and gowns. Staff will also sanitise their hands immediately prior to entering any room, and again immediately after. Only essential staff will be allowed on site.

We continue to monitor the health of residents and check their temperatures daily. Existing processes to screen and temperature check all staff daily remain in place.

The staff member is isolating at home and will only return when medically cleared. All staff who have been in close contact with the impacted staff member are in self-isolation.

We are well prepared and taking every action we can to minimise any cross contamination.

We have contacted all families of residents of each community by telephone and email and communicated this information to them. We will provide regular updates to residents and their families, and our staff.
