Update: Brookview, Strathalan and The Orchards Communities

Posted: Wednesday 12 August 2020

Previously, Baptcare confirmed that there are currently three staff members of Baptcare Residential Aged Care Communities who have tested positive for COVID-19 or are at risk of being positive for COVID-19. Read news item for more information.

Today, Baptcare can confirm the following updates for three residential aged care communities affected.

Brookview Residential Aged Care Community, located in Westmeadows

All residents continue to be well and are not experiencing any symptoms. All residents and staff have now been tested. We have received the overwhelming majority of resident test results and they are all negative. We await one pending resident test result. All staff were tested on site on Tuesday, 11 August 2020. We have received a small portion of staff results and they are all negative. We await the pending staff results.

Strathalan Residential Aged Care Community, located in Macleod

All residents continue to be well and are not experiencing any symptoms. All residents have been tested and have been found to be negative. All staff were tested on site on Monday, 10 August 2020. We have received the overwhelming majority of staff test results and they are all negative. We await one pending staff test result.

We have begun to plan for the time when all residents can resume their normal activities on their own floors. This will only be possible when all remaining test results are found to be negative. We continue to work with the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Public Health Unit (PHU) and will follow their advice.

The Orchards Residential Aged Care Community, located in East Doncaster

We have notified the Department and continue to follow their advice. Testing is planned towards the end of this week.

Our primary concern during this time is the wellbeing, health and safety of our residents and staff. These cases were reported to the relevant Health authorities and we are taking advice from them.

Out of an abundance of caution, we have isolated all residents to their rooms and maintained segregation in each of these communities. All staff will wear personal protective equipment (PPE) – masks, gloves, goggles and gowns. Staff will also sanitise their hands immediately prior to entering any room, and again immediately after. Only essential staff will be allowed on site.

We continue to monitor the health of residents and check their temperatures daily. Existing processes to screen and temperature check all staff daily remain in place.

The staff members are isolating at home and will only return when medically cleared. All staff who have been in close contact with the impacted staff member are in self-isolation.

We are well prepared and taking every action we can to minimise any cross contamination.

We have contacted all families of residents of each community by telephone and email and communicated this information to them. We will provide regular updates to residents and their families, and our staff.
