Update: Baptcare Wyndham Lodge Community – Werribee, Victoria

23 August 2020

Baptcare can confirm that there are currently 79 active cases of COVID-19 linked to Baptcare Wyndham Lodge Community in Werribee. A ninth round of testing took place on Thursday, 20 August 2020, on site.

All the test results from Thursday’s round of testing have now been returned. Sadly, one additional resident has tested positive.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce a resident of Wyndham Lodge passed away yesterday due to COVID-19.  We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the resident’s family, loved ones, fellow residents and our team who cared for her.

The Department of Health and Human Services Public Health Unit has cleared 27 residents.  This has only been achievable by working closely with DHHS PHU to demonstrate how we would manage cleared residents within the home to ensure the ongoing safety of non-cleared residents and staff.  DHHS PHU and AusMAT (Government Infection Control Specialists) have been on site to review the proposed plan and have approved our approach.

There are now 24 active cases among residents, including three who are receiving care in hospital. All other residents continue to receive care and support as they recover in a separate area of Wyndham Lodge.

Currently, there are 55 active cases among staff who are either isolating or in care. We continue to be in touch with them regularly and support them in their recovery.

Baptcare remains proactive in ensuring that any additional measures to protect and support the wellbeing of residents and staff are implemented. We also continue to work closely with the Department of Health and Human Services and the Public Health Unit to best manage the outbreak.

All staff continue to provide care in full personal protective equipment (PPE) – N95 mask, gloves, goggles and gown – as has been the case since the first positive case was reported on 16 July.

Our staffing levels continue to be significantly higher than normal to ensure delivery of appropriate care and to allow staff sufficient time to effectively utilise PPE.

We continue to communicate daily with all families of residents by telephone and email to provide them with during this challenging time.

Baptcare remains focused and committed to providing our best to care for all residents and protect our staff – their health and wellbeing remains our unwavering number one priority.
