Update: Baptcare Wyndham Lodge Community – Werribee, Victoria
Baptcare can confirm that there are currently 76 active cases linked to Baptcare Wyndham Lodge Community in Werribee. Of those cases, 39 are residents who have tested positive to COVID-19 at Wyndham Lodge. Five of the residents remain in hospital, while others who have tested positive are receiving care and support in a separate area of Wyndham Lodge.
Tragically, since the beginning of this outbreak, six families have lost loved ones. We share their hurt and feel their pain, and that of their fellow residents, friends and the staff who cared for them.
Baptcare’s unwavering focus and commitment is to continue providing our best to care for all residents – their health and wellbeing remains without doubt our number one priority. To ensure this commitment is met, our staffing levels continue to be significantly higher than normal to ensure delivery of appropriate care and to allow staff sufficient time to effectively utilise PPE. As an example, most of these past two weeks we’ve had 40% more staff on duty than would normally be the case.
We also continue to work closely with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Public Health Unit (PHU) to best manage the outbreak.
Those staff who have tested positive are isolating and/or in care and we are in touch with them regularly. We continue to support them.
Additional management support continues to be provided, as we seek to support the team on the ground at Wyndham Lodge.
The majority of infected residents are from within the same area of the building and are being cared for in a separate wing of Wyndham Lodge.
The majority of infected staff also worked in the same area of the building. We have provided all information requested to the DHHS Public Health Unit (PHU) to help in their contact tracing efforts.
Baptcare remains well placed to provide adequate care for the residents of Wyndham Lodge. Care is being provided by our staff in full personal protective equipment (PPE) – mask, gloves, goggles and gown – as has been the case since the first positive case was reported on 16 July.
We are incredibly thankful to all of our hardworking and committed staff who are doing their very best caring for our residents as they would their own family.
We are taking additional precautionary actions including isolating all residents to their rooms and additional deep and contact cleaning.
We continue to monitor the health of residents and check their temperatures daily. Existing processes to screen and temperature check all staff and residents daily remain in place.
We continue to communicate with all families of residents by telephone and email and communicated this information to them.
