Graduate nurse recoginsed with award

Baptcare Karingal staff member, Danielle Jacobson has been awarded The Education and Training Award at the 2017 Tasmanian Aged Care Awards.

This award identifies an outstanding young person training and making a career in the aged care sector.

Cara Shearer, Baptcare Karingal Residential Care and Services Manager said the aged care sector needs more nurses like Danielle.

“She is such an asset at Karingal. Through her motivation and willingness to learn she has actively sought every opportunity to improve herself and the care and services to others. She has such a bright career ahead of her”.

Danielle, a newly graduated nurse having never worked in aged care, started with Baptcare Karingal Community in February this year after enrolling in the Aged and Community Services Australia Graduate Program; which Baptcare is a part of.

Through this graduate program, Danielle benefited from working alongside older mentors and readily sought every opportunity presented to her.

She worked as a Team Leader, Registered Nurse in charge of hours and a Nurse Unit Manager.

She has been able to develop sound clinical skills in a shared and supported role. She uses a collaborative approach to ensure innovation and best practice standards are maintained and modernised.

Whilst learning in her new role and working on her Graduate Program, Danielle has also enrolled in Honours.

“Winning this Award is certainly uplifting as it recognises all of the hard work and commitment that goes along with completing a graduate year. The opportunities and support I have received from Baptcare are priceless and certainly have facilitated my growth as a graduate nurse.”

Baptcare believes Danielle is an exceptional example of the new generation of nurses we need in the aged care sector to deliver the best of care and we wish her our heartfelt congratulations.
