Carers who feel like family
Peter Hutchinson and his family have benefited from Baptcare’s care, after his mum qualified for an In Home Care package.
Peter found it difficult to juggle a full time job, support a family with a 20-month old daughter and care for his mum, who has dementia. He was referred to Baptcare five years ago and his life as well as his mother's, has since changed for the better.
Baptcare’s care workers have enriched Peter’s mum’s life by introducing her to a range of activities and social interactions, while assisting her with dealing with her developing condition. Peter said the care workers take his mum on outings up to four times a week, which has been invaluable.
“I didn’t want her to be stuck at home, so having Baptcare take her out was incredibly important,” Peter said.
Peter’s mum has enjoyed outings to various activity centres in her local area, which has played a crucial role in improving her temperament and way of life at home. Knowing that his mum is experiencing some much needed social interaction and engagement with her community has also given Peter some piece of mind.
Peter added it would have been impossible for his mother to stay safely and independently at home without the care and attention she received from Baptcare. The personal touch and constant support of her care workers has given Peter the confidence that his mum is receiving the best possible care.
“Some of the carers feel like family… and just knowing they are there makes all the difference. Just knowing there is someone to help you when you need is the greatest part (of Baptcare’s services),” Peter said.
