“The situation was reaching critical and I was afraid for my life” Yasmine, asylum seeker.
It is hard for you or me to imagine how tough it would be to travel as an outcast for months with an infant baby.
But that is exactly Yasmine’s story. Now in Australia she has gone from homeless to hopeful thanks to the Baptcare Houses of Hope program. And, of course, she is just one of the many desperate people we provide a home for.
Right now, our resources are stretched and we need your help. Please phone our donation line, 03 9831 7203 or give online.
“After a harrowing journey across Malaysia and Indonesia, it took three months to arrive in Australia. We were starved, had no water and often occupied spaces with no air like containers, trucks and fishing boats with tarpaulins. I had to trek the jungle in Indonesia and was covered in leaches.
Once we travelled on a bus for 7 days and weren’t allowed to leave our seats unless we needed to use the on-board toilet. We feared for our lives and at every stage of the journey we had to pay more money. We spent all our savings.”
As a pregnant young woman and as a new mum, Yasmine has obviously been subjected to far more than anyone should have to face. In Australia with her infant baby, her cruel experience continued.
