New gym and physio services for Norlane seniors

New gym and physio services for Norlane seniors

Geelong’s senior citizens will soon have better access to dedicated aged care and exercise facilities with construction beginning today on a new residential community hub.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester said the hub would provide specialised physiotherapy services with a new gymnasium, consulting suites for allied health and a new café.

“Meeting the needs of an ageing population is a national challenge, and investments like this encourage people to stay in or move to communities like Norlane,” Mr Chester said.

Federal Member for Corangamite Sarah Henderson said that the Baptcare Norlane Integrated Community Project has already provided the community with the affordable housing component earlier this year.

“The hub builds on the accommodation support delivered through the Coalition Government’s National Stronger Regions Fund in 2015, and it’s great to see the first sod turned today as we head towards a facility opening in late 2018,” Ms Henderson said.

Baptcare General Manager of Property Ray Bongiorno said this development means delivering much needed quality aged care and community services to the Norlane area focusing on those people most in need.

“We are delighted to deliver a community that will change people’s lives, and give residents – regardless of their background, means or social circumstances – greater fullness of life. When complete, Norlane will be a truly integrated community where people in private affordable homes live alongside ageing residents all whilst connecting to the local community,” Mr Bongiorno said.

“Baptcare is excited to become part of the Norlane community, to evoke community spirit, encourage community engagement and help create positive memories for all who reside here.”

This project was jointly funded by The Australian Government ($7,250,000) and Baptcare Ltd ($36,259,000).
