Elderly residents at Baptcare’s St Hilary’s Community can now enjoy a game of pool thanks to local business, Colin Watson Motors who donated a pool table to the facility last week.
St Hilary’s Director of Nursing, Ms Michelle Shanks, said the willingness of local businesses to support a facility like St Hilary’s is a fantastic demonstration of the sense of community in the area.
“It’s amazing to receive such a generous donation for our elderly residents. Interactive activities such as a game of pool are a simple yet effective way of encouraging social interaction, improving confidence and encouraging the formation of new friendships,” Ms Shanks said.
Mr Chris Elliot from Colin Watson Motors said the donation was a great opportunity to support a worthwhile community project.
“Colin Watson Motors likes to support the community in any way they can. I’ve also had elderly grandparents in nursing homes and therefore I understand that their opportunities for social interaction are limited. It’s wonderful to know that the residents at St Hilary’s will benefit from this donation,” said Mr Elliot.
The residents are excited by the new addition to their facility and now enjoy regular games of pool.
“The pool table is fantastic and has exceeded my expectations. I’m certain that we will get many hours of enjoyment… thank you very much Colin Watson Motors,” said St Hilary’s resident, Mr Don Lyons.
Baptcare’s Chief Executive, Mr Jeff Davey, said this type of support enables Baptcare to truly enhance the wellbeing of residents.
“Baptcare seeks to assist vulnerable people to reach their full potential and live richer lives. It’s wonderful to receive this type of support from local businesses that also appreciate the significance of this vision,” said Mr Davey.
St Hilary’s Community was redeveloped last year to allow space for 21 extra beds for local elderly people.
