To celebrate the Tasmanian State Government’s decision to continue funding Baptcare Orana’s Overnight Respite Program for the next two years, an official afternoon tea will be held at Baptcare Orana on 30 July.
In early June, Health Minister Michelle O’Byrne, confirmed that the government would maintain the same level of funding until 2012, or until alternative funding is secured.
Baptcare’s Chief Executive, Mr Jeff Davey, said the announcement is an exciting time for Baptcare Orana as it will ensure ongoing support for many vulnerable individuals in the community.
“We are thrilled by the positive outcome as it will guarantee the continued operation of a much needed program in the community. The past year has been a difficult and uncertain period for the local community including Orana employees, clients, carers and program supporters and we are thankful to everyone who advocated to keep this vital program open, said Mr Davey.
To ensure the ongoing operation of the program, a consultant has been hired to look at alternative funding options.
The celebratory afternoon tea will allow key supporters to come together to enjoy food, speeches and a special cake. Entertainment will be provided by Bill Cumming.
The Overnight Respite Program is run at Orana and is one of many vital programs delivered from this facility. Orana’s other programs include day respite, the Sunday Lunch Program, social support, packaged care and support for people with a disability.
All of Baptcare’s day centres offer a variety of social activities that are designed to improve socialisation and provide support to clients in a way that sensitively acknowledges cultural and linguistic differences.
