On 24 November Baptcare and the Baptist Union of Tasmania (BUT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding, marking the beginning of a partnership designed to be mutually beneficial and supportive of both Baptcare and the BUT’s mission and activities.

Baptcare is the ‘welfare agency’ of the Baptist Union of Victoria and for the past 64 years has provided a range of services for the elderly, children, families, people with a disability and asylum seekers across Victoria. The BUT is an association of some 30 Baptist churches across Tasmania and seeks to aid in the promotion of community welfare. Following Baptcare’s merger with Karingal and the recent opening of their two new Tasmanian based family services offices, Baptcare and the BUT sought to make a public acknowledgement of their desire to support each other’s work in Tasmania.

The new partnership will involve the BUT promoting Baptcare’s work in Tasmania and assisting Baptcare with the development of community relationships. Baptcare will seek to deliver excellent care to the Tasmanian community, collaborate with the BUT on local community ministry initiatives and explore future partnerships with Tasmanian churches.
