Baptcare’s residential aged care facility, Northaven Community, hosted their annual garden party fundraiser which raised $3000 to go towards the purchase of new furniture for the elderly residents.

The successful event attracted hundreds of local members including Northaven staff, residents, families of residents, church representatives, schools and various local support groups.

Participants were treated to various carnival type activities including food and sweet shops, craft stands and the elephant stall; a stall which sells preloved items.

Held on the first Friday in November, the tradition has lasted for 40 years and continues to attract many local faces to the annual occasion.

Most notably, the successful event is driven by a group of women, who are committed to the welfare of the frail elderly.

Known as the Northaven Auxiliary, the ladies have raised funds for various items including funds to purchase a LCD television and fit-outs for a hair dressing parlour.

Despite some member being close to the ripe old age of 90, the auxiliary continue to implement various fundraising activities, all in an effort to make life more enjoyable for vulnerable individuals.

President of the Northhaven Auxiliary, Joyce Martin, said the auxiliary enjoy contributing to the individuals at Northaven Community and hope to continue their work for as long as possible.

“This year’s event was really successful and all the donations will go towards the purchase of new chairs for the lounge room. Knowing that we are making someone’s life just that little bit more enjoyable is wonderful,” said Ms Martin.

So far, the ladies have raised over $40,000 for the facility.
