Baptcare's newest aged care facility, Hedley Sutton Community, officially opened on the 2nd of October by Senator the Hon Jan McLucas, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health and Ageing.
Over 200 guests attended this commemorative ceremony which marks the completion of Baptcare's ten year building project aiming to create residential ‘facilities of excellence’.
“The redevelopment of Hedley Sutton is a significant investment for Baptcare, and reflects our commitment to providing for the growing needs of our ageing population,” said Baptcare’s Chief Executive, Mr Jeff Davey. “We are extremely proud to have opened the facility, which will allow us to care for a greater number of elderly Victorians in need.”
Curious members of the community, including Hedley Sutton’s residents and their families, were excited to finally see the facility with their own eyes.
The aged care facility has been built around a heritage listed mansion in Camberwell, and will provide residents with an elegant place to call home, and a loving family of caring staff to share it with.
During the opening ceremony, Senator McLucas spoke about the need for facilities such as Hedley Sutton, where all levels of care are provided to ensure the residents can ‘age in place’. Congratulating Baptcare on achieving the completion of this huge project, Senator McLucas also paid tribute to the quality of the care provided by Hedley Sutton’s staff.
The facility will provide 100 aged care beds and 38 independent living units. The buildings are surrounded by beautiful gardens and courtyards.
Hedley Sutton Community is the last of Baptcare’s six Victorian residential facilities to have been redeveloped in the last decade.
