Abercare is holding an art competition with the theme “I Dream” where grade 5/6 students of five local schools in addition to Abercare clients and carer’s children will send in their artistic interpretations of what they dream.
Local artist Jonah Jones has generously volunteered his time to judge the competition and will carefully select 50 pieces of work to go on display at Abercare’s Moonee Ponds office.
This competition will also provide a chance for children in foster care, children of foster carers, children with disabilities and other Abercare clients to express their dreams and flaunt their talents.
“This competition is a great opportunity for children in Moonee Valley to become involved with an agency like Abercare,” said CEO Jeff Davey. “The emotions, reflections and dreams that will come through this artwork will be incredible.”
“It is also a wonderful opportunity to alter some of the preconceived ideas that people sometimes associate with children being in foster care,” Mr Davey said.
Foster children will have had many different life experiences that will be captured within creative and moving pieces of work.
“While this artwork competition is a great way to link Abercare to local schools and the community, it is also an important way of letting people know that we always need more carers and that there are flexible options with different types of care and varying lengths of stay available,” said Mr Davey.
“There will always be children in Moonee Valley that urgently need Foster Carers to provide safe, secure and caring homes during times of difficulty,” he said.
