Your generosity will help an aged resident to bloom this Spring

We know that growing older is an unavoidable part of life, and while we hope that we will reach our twilight years with grace, dignity and peace, unfortunately we don’t always have a choice.

Ethel* was an independant 80 year old who lived a comfortable life at home, until she began experiencing difficulty with her legs and was hospitalised.

Just as Ethel was given the news that she would no longer be able to move her legs, her husband of 62 years passed away. Having experienced unimaginable grief and now unable to walk, Ethel found it hard to care for herself.

“I didn’t know who to turn to. I was so afraid that I would have to give up my independence and thought that receiving care would only burden others.”

When Ethel moved into Baptcare’s Strathalan Community, she was nervous and afraid, but quickly began to feel at home.

“From the moment I arrived at Strathalan, I noticed that this was more than just a facility, it was a community. Every staff member is so loving and supportive that it feels like I have an extended family.”

Ethel has now formed new friendships and no longer sees her age as a barrier. She is looking forward to the quieter years of her life.

Baptcare’s seven residential aged care facilities are full of elderly people with stories to tell. People who, like Ethel, have begun to overcome their fears, recover from their losses, and find a quiet peace within themselves.

While there are many stories of hope, there are also many of sadness. Many of our 850 residents suffer memory loss, are confined to wheelchairs and experience daily pain - both physical and emotional. At Baptcare we do our very best to provide exceptional care for every individual, maximising choice and independence for residents, but there is only so much we can do with government funding.

It is with the generous support of people like you that we are able to offer hope and a real home to residents like Ethel. Your generosity can help a lonely individual in a number of important ways:

$25 could pay for five residents to attend a craft group.
$40 could pay for eight residents to go on a bus trip.
$120 could pay for lifestyle activities including entertainers.
$400 could support a pet therapy program.

People like Ethel need our love and compassion to overcome their losses and find peace in their final years. Your support will give someone like Ethel the chance to enjoy their twilight years with as much respect and dignity as possible. Please give generously.
