Abercare’s early years services cover Flexible Support Packages that are run on behalf of the Department of Education & Early Childhood Development (DEECD), and the Learn, Play, Talk program for children under five with autism and/or language and/or developmental delays.

Early Childhood Intervention Services (ECIS) – Flexible Support Packages

ECIS flexible support packages are designed for children with conditions such as Autism, and provide a range of tailored flexible service responses to meet the specific needs of the children and families. The packages aim to strengthen the capacity of families to promote optimal development and support the needs of the child with a disability or delay, and ease some of the additional pressures on parents.

Early Years - Learn, Play, Talk

The ‘Early Years – Learn, Play, Talk’ program is designed to cater for the needs of pre-school children who have been identified as having Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or language and/or developmental delays in the western metropolitan region of Melbourne.

These children are currently on a Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) central waiting list for an Early Childhood Intervention Service.

The Learn, Play, Talk program has three tiers of services and aims to support and assist parents by providing them with skills and strategies needed to communicate effectively with their children.

Currently the pilot-program is being self-funded by Baptcare for two years. A source of recurrent annual funding is currently being sought to ensure the future of the program.
