Baptcare Hedley Sutton Community was established in 1972, and has been providing exceptional care to residents ever since. We pride ourselves on our inviting atmosphere and sense of community. Our on-site café is a hub of activity for residents and their visitors to enjoy a coffee, snack or meal. While you’ll feel like you’re on the café strip, you also have the comfort of knowing that trained staff are on hand.

Hedley Sutton offers a range of spaces for everyone to enjoy – whether that be a quiet game of chess in the library, or hosting family and friends in our scenic courtyard area. We have many sun-filled communal areas to spend time with others, includinga gazebo and BBQ area. And for the times when you prefer to stay indoors, you can relax in one of our comfortable lounges.
The latest innovations in aged care
Hedley Sutton has advanced systems in place to ensure the best of care for our residents. For medication safety, we use an electronic medication system that communicates directly with our residents’ doctors and pharmacists. Our bathrooms are designed with coloured rails to assist residents living with Alzheimer’s, to reduce the likelihood of falls. And you’ll be reassured to know that every resident has a nurse call button within easy reach in both the bedroom and bathroom.

Hedley Sutton is a modern, two-storey building with 100 private rooms, catering to all levels of care. Both levels have three wings, each with their own dining and lounge rooms. Our smaller dining rooms foster a more intimate setting for mealtimes and enhance the sense of homeliness. Meanwhile, the general layout of our community is designed to encourage residents to move around and enjoy the communal areas, while making all facilities easily accessible from any room or level.
Room types
Every room at Hedley Sutton is private – residents’ suites are their own personal space. Residents are welcome to personalise their suite so that it feels like home, by hanging pictures on the wall or even bringing in their favourite chair. We have many areas that characterise the community feel of Hedley Sutton. Our ground floor social area is popular – especially when we hold our regular activities for residents and their visitors – and there are comfortable sitting areas in our lounge. We also have a library on-site, if you’re looking for a quieter change of scenery.

While pets cannot stay with residents, they are very welcome to visit with family or friends.

What are the visiting hours?
As part of providing a warm and homely environment to residents, visitors are welcome at any time of the day. We invite family and friends to be part of activities and mealtimes, and to enjoy time with their loved one in our gardens and shared spaces.
How do I know if residential aged care is right for my family member?
A change in health, or increasing concern about your family member’s frailty, safety or isolation at home can mean that aged care accommodation is the next step.
Carers at aged care homes can help residents with day-to-day tasks (such as cleaning, cooking, laundry); personal care (such as dressing, grooming, going to the toilet); or 24-hour nursing care (such as wound care or catheter care).
Residential aged care can also help people to stay connected with interests and with others.

We consider a number of factors to manage our waiting lists. People in urgent need are the highest priority. Other factors include someone’s readiness to enter an aged care home, and if the accommodation that becomes available suits their individual care needs.
If you are offered a room and are not ready at that time you can decline the room without it affecting your position on the waiting list.
Can I bring my furniture and possessions?
Yes you can. Your suite is your own and you can personalise the room as much or as little as you wish.
For example you can hang pictures on the wall, use your own quilt from home, and bring in your favourite easy chair.
We do request that rooms are kept un-cluttered, with enough space for care staff to move freely about. For this reason, we don’t recommend bringing in large pieces of furniture.
What’s in the local area of Hedley Sutton?
Baptcare Hedley Sutton is located in Camberwell, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, 9 km east of the CBD, located within the City of Boroondara local government area. Known for grand, historic residences and tranquil, leafy streets, Camberwell is commonly regarded as one of Melbourne's most prestigious and exclusive suburbs.
A feature of Camberwell is the Burke Road shopping strip, which stretches north, approximately 600 m from Camberwell Junction, where three tram routes converge—the 70, 72, and 75.
Halfway up the shopping strip is Camberwell railway station, which services the Belgrave, Lilydale, and Alamein train lines. East Camberwell, Riversdale, Willison, and Hartwell stations also lie within the suburb's boundaries. Several bus routes also cover the area.
The historic Rivoli Cinemas sit just west of Camberwell Junction, in the adjacent suburb of Hawthorn East.
Camberwell has several parks, reserves and playgrounds, most notably, Frog Hollow Reserve, Fordham Gardens, Cooper Reserve, Bowen Gardens, Lynden Park, Highfield Park, Riversdale Park and Willison Park.

The Camberwell Sunday Market has been operated by the Rotary Club of Balwyn since 1976 and comprises 370 stallholders, selling secondhand clothing, books, furniture, and crafts.

Who is eligible for a place at Baptcare Hedley Sutton?
Baptcare Hedley Sutton is a residential aged care community. This means that it is for older people who need a higher level of care than what can be provided in their own home. Most rooms at Hedley Sutton are concessional. Preference is given to DHHS Public and Community Housing clients and other government funded clients.
How do I apply for a place at Baptcare Hedley Sutton?
1. Apply for residential aged care through the My Aged Care website. Call 13 BAPTCARE (13 22 78) and we can guide you through the process.
2. My Aged Care will arrange an ACAS assessment visit to determine your care needs.
3. Appoint an authorised representative (Power of Attorney) if necessary.
4. Get an income and asset assessment. This will determine your aged care fees and whether you qualify for government funding.
5. Choose the Baptcare residential aged care community that’s right for you. You may wish to consider a respite stay to see if the community meets your needs.
6. Call 13 BAPTCARE (13 22 78) to arrange a tour of your chosen community and fill out an application form.
